Kevin M. Nolan

Kevin M. Nolan

July 10, 1953 – September 22, 2018

Jeffersonville-Kevin M. Nolan, 65, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born July 10, 1953 in Burlington, the son of John F. and Elizabeth Ann Rooney Nolan. He was a graduate of Essex High School.

Kevin Nolan led a life of commitment, pride, love, and respect for his family and inner circle of friends. He was dedicated and passionate about the successful logging business that he arduously built. His business was one that he was proud to be initially a mentor in, and ultimately, in partnership with his son, Eli Nolan. Having a fervor for hunting and outdoor sportsmanship, he was a proud Vermonter and savored its beautiful landscapes and amenities. He often reminisced about his teenage years spent on his Aunt Barbie’s and Uncle John’s farm, where he learned the ropes in entrepreneurship, independence, and commitment, which ultimately guided him in his pursuit of his own successful logging business, one that he enjoyed for over 40 years.

Kevin leaves behind his son, Eli Nolan, of Jeffersonville, Vermont, his daughter, Erin Nolan, and her fiance, Sean Moore, of Woodinville, Washington. Also surviving are his brother Craig Nolan and sister in law, Barb Nolan, of Averill, Vermont, and his brother, Brian Nolan, of Jeffersonville, Vermont. His sisters, Margaret Lefsky, of East Brunswick, New Jersey, and Marlyne Amrani, of Hillsborough, New Jersey, along with his brother, Steven Nolan and sister in law, Amy Nolan, of Mesa, Arizona mourn his loss. Kevin Nolan also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews from his beloved siblings.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Faith Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville. Online condolences may be made by visiting faithfh.net.

Debora Ann (Jordan) Cherington Debora Ann (Jordan) Cherington Obituary
Calais – Debora Ann (Jordan) Cherington died on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at The University of Vermont Medical Center, in Burlington.Known to friends and family as “Debi”, she was born in Burlington on July 13, 1954, and grew up in Essex Jct. She attended local public schools and graduated from Essex High School. She attended UVM and, later in life, earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College, in Burlington.

Debi had a long career as a preschool teacher, working at VT Nurses Association Child Care Center, in Burlington, Trinity College Child Care Center, and Burlington Children’s Space. Later she worked in Montpelier, at the Family Center of Washington County.

On October 14, 1995, she was married, in Calais, VT, to Reed Cherington, to whom she was introduced by mutual friends, Scott Bassage and Charlotte Hanna.

Although she had no children of her own, Debi loved, and was loved, by countless children, including her three step-grandchildren Kate, Alex, and Calvin; and her grand-nephew Waydon. While a student at UVM, she spent summers with Frank and Jane Emanuel, caring for their children. She formed a lifelong relationship with the Emanuel family that helped compensate for broken ties with her birth family.

Debi lived in the Burlington area until 2005, when she and Reed moved to Calais. There she reveled in country life, increasing her awareness of nature and the importance of teaching children about it. She kept a flock of chickens and a pair of miniature goats, in addition to two house cats. She volunteered at Calais Elementary School and North Branch Nature Center, and joined the Unitarian-Universalist Church, in Montpelier.

In spite of the joy she experienced pursuing her passions, Debi suffered from episodes of severe depression for much of her life. She was diagnosed with, and treated for, Lyme disease this past Spring. She died while in intensive care, five days after attempting to take her own life.

Debi was predeceased by her close friend, Amy Wise. She is survived by her husband, Reed, of Calais; two grown step-children, Stephen Cherington, of Houston, TX, and Donna (Cherington) Conlon, of Beaufort, SC; three grandchildren, Kate, Alex and Calvin; a favorite niece, Emmalee Cherington, of Monkton, VT; grand-nephew Waydon Cherington; the Emanuel Family, of Lahaina, HI and Woodinville, WA., and many other dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Montpelier Unitarian-Universalist Church later in August. Those wishing to make memorial contributions might consider the North Branch Nature Center, 713 Elm St., Montpelier, VT 05602. Arrangements by Guare and Sons, Montpelier.

She always put others before herself, looking out for their well-being. In addition to helping others, she enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, camping, taking care of her birds and cats, and going to the bingo. She will be remembered for her strength, warm heart, and sense of humor. She has gone on to continue helping others in a better place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Essex Junction. Interment will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington. For those who wish, donations in Susan’s memory may be made to either the Breast Care Center, 1 S. Prospect St., Burlington, Vt. 05401, or Hospice of the Champlain Valley VNA, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ready Funeral Home, Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive, Essex Junction.

CHARLES W. HEATH – BURLINGTON – April 14, 1954 to Aug. 28, 2013 – I wish more people had a chance to meet Charlie. He definitely was one of the greatest men in the world. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He liked heavy lifting, which he called character building. He helped whoever needed it, and didn’t brag or take credit for it. He was a strong minded and excellent teacher, to anyone that needed it, at IBM, or any other place he worked. He was an excellent hunter and fisherman. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and greatgrandfather. Charlie was predeceased by his father, Raymond, and mother, Esther Heath; brother, Norman, and younger brother, Grant; daughter, Robin Ann Parker; beloved Uncle Fred and Aunt Alice; Nanny and Granny, who he loved very much. He is survived by his sister, Marry Stec of Oregon; brother, Jeff Heath of Essex; daughter and princess, Noelle Lee Garvey, and son, Shannon J. Heath of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Christina, Charlie, Christopher, Samantha, Justin, Alyssa, the youngest, Hunter Parker; numerous great-grandchildren; best friends, John D. and Junior; and me, his wife, Maureen Heath. There will be no services; as this was our promise to one another. He will be put to rest in the most beautiful place he ever knew, to wait for me. God bless him.

JAMES J. TAFT – ESSEX JUNCTION – James J. Taft, 59, of Essex Junction, died unexpectedly on Jan. 10, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care. He was born in Rutland on June 5, 1954, to the late Chester M. and Mary J. Taft. He grew up and lived in Essex Junction. He graduated in 1972 from Essex Junction Educational Center, and in 1977 from the University of Vermont. He played varsity soccer at UVM and was Co-Captain and MVP for the 1975 season. After graduating from UVM, Jim taught social studies at Milton High School and at Essex Junction Educational Center. While at Milton, he coached boys’ varsity soccer. His 1978 team won the Class I State Championship. Upon leaving Essex Junction Educational Center, he became employed with Systems & Software, Inc. developing and teaching the use of municipal accounting software. He worked there until he retired. For many summers following UVM, Jim participated in a mens’ semi-pro soccer league, playing with many former high school and college teammates and opponents. They and their families became a lifelong group of friends. He enjoyed his role as family curmudgeon and Mr. Fix-It. Jim was a funny, helpful and generous brother, uncle and great-uncle. He was especially fond of his nieces and grandnieces and nephew. In recent years, he had enjoyed traveling to Florida and the Caribbean. He had been coaxed to take up the game of golf, for which he had developed a love-hate relationship. Jim was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brothers, George, David, and Jeffrey and wife, Marilee; sister, Deborah and husband, Walter Swarkowski; nieces, Brooke Taft Robbins and Heather Taft Garrow; grandnieces, Abby Robbins and Ryleigh Garrow; grandnephew, Tanner Robbins; and many cousins, and dear friends. He will be very much missed by them all. Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Jim was a supporter of organ and tissue donation. It appears that his generosity in this regard may benefit as many as 30 people. For those who wish, and also in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name and memory to Essex Rescue, 1 Educational Drive, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
